Crystalline Silicon solar panels
Currently, nearly 90% of the worlds’ devices for converting solar energy into electricity made of silicon. In 2011, more than 95% of all solar panels, Implemented world wide were based on crystalline silicon.
Silicon used in photovoltaic (PV, or photovoltaic), has many modifications. Their main difference lies in the purity of the silicon.
But what does silicon purity mean? The sharper the silicon molecules are arranged, the more efficient photovoltaic cell converts solar energy (sunlight) to electricity (photoelectric effect).
Performance of solar panels depends on the purity of the silicon. Although, it should be noted that the processes used for its increase is quite expensive. Therefore, the degree of purity of the silicon should not have to be a decisive factor. As you will understand, cost effective and efficient use of space are fundamental factors in most cases. Moreover, any producer and supplier of solar panels does not indicate the purity used in the production of silicon solar cells.
